How processing works

Every tool on Thepaperwork processes files locally, using your browser's own JavaScript engine. Your PDF or image is decoded, edited, and re-encoded on your device — it is never transmitted to a server for processing. When you click “Download,” the file is built right there in your browser tab and handed to you directly.

What does leave your browser

• The libraries the page needs to run (fonts, PDF and image engines) load as part of the application bundle, the same way any website loads its code — this is code, not your files.
• The AI Summarizer and Translate PDF tools send only the extracted text of your document to Claude for that specific request — never the file itself, and nothing else about it.

What this means for you

Because processing happens on your device, the security of your files ultimately depends on your own device and browser being trustworthy — the same as opening the file in any other local application.
